Company Classes are structured classes that hold dancers to a high standard of proper technique. Dancers are grouped according to their strengths and will be taught varying degrees of ballet, jazz, contemporary and lyrical movement. We highly recommend adding on a Ballet class to aid in training. We expect that Company dancers are committed to excellent attendance and consistent at-home practice in order to be prepared for class. Weekly devotions are often shared during stretching time. Company Classes work together toward the goal of creating performance pieces that are purposed to honor to the Lord and to lift high the name of Jesus Christ. These pieces will be performed at the formal Spring Show in April at a rented venue. Pre-Company dancers will perform in the May Showcase in lieu of the April Spring Show. Both Company and Pre-Company dancers may have opportunity to perform at various performances outside of the studio such as Washington City Mission’s Sweet Sunday, Canonsburg’s Old Fashioned Christmas and various nursing homes and church events.
*Five year-old dancers that have spent two years in our Pre-Company program will automatically move into the ADORE Company class the September after their birthday.
Rec Dance offers the opportunity to explore dance in a less structured environment than Company Classes. Dancers will be exposed to various disciplines on an introductory level without concern for perfecting technique. They will experience the use of different worship elements such as tambourines and ribbons, and learn choreography to perform in an informal showcase. Practicing memory verses is included in class time. There are two sessions for Rec Classes. The Fall Session will focus on basic ballet technique and the Spring Session will focus on jazz technique.
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON: OCTOBER 9 (FALL SESSION) FEBRUARY 7 (SPRING SESSION)
GCDC is an Acrobatic Arts certified studio. We use their acclaimed curriculum, which is based on a safe and effective progression through levels. Acro-Dance focuses on flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling. To keep dancers from losing flexibility, strength, and skills due to inactivity, Acro-Dance is available all year long and students are invited to display their skills in an informal showcase at the end of May.
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON FEBRUARY 3-6 AND REOPENS FOR SUMMER SESSION
Ballet is the strong foundation for all other forms of dance. This class will spend significant time on proper alignment of the body, carriage of the arms, turnout of the legs, and gracefulness. Dancers will learn ballet skills with increasing difficulty. Ballet classes run September-May. Dancers in the Ballet class will learn choreography to perform in an informal showcase at the end of May.
Contemporary encourages self-expression and creative movement through a blend of techniques from ballet, jazz, and lyrical styles. In this class, dancers will cultivate musicality, fluidity, coordination, spatial awareness, and a strong stage presence through improvisation, combinations, and technical drills.
Preparation to dance en pointe is a process that begins in our Ballet and Foot Strengthening classes. Ages 11 and up can begin the process after approval from a teacher. After they have progressed through that process, and once they turn 13 and gain approval from a teacher, the dancer may enroll in our Pointe program. In order to be considered for the program or continue in the program, the dancer must participate in Company,Pointe/Pre-Pointe and Foot Strengthening classes all year long. These classes are for highly motivated dancers with a strong work ethic that are willing to dedicate themselves to at-home practice time. Pointe dancers participate in an informal showcase at the end of May. Some pointe dancers may, at the director’s discretion, perform in April’s Spring Show.
Foot Strengthening class will help dancers strengthen vital areas of dance such as high relevés, feet with a sharp pointe, strong jumps, increased balance, overall strength, and conditioning, and full articulation and control of the feet. For those dancers hoping to dance en pointe, Foot Strengthening class is the first step in that process. These classes run all year round.
In this class, students will use strengthening exercises, stretches, and drills to perfect the technique needed for powerful leaps and strong, balanced turns, which are staple pieces in upper-level choreography. Not only will this make your dancer a better leaper and turner, but this will give them the extra strength and flexibility training that makes for a strong dancer overall. This is an excellent add-on class for those that want to improve their strength and flexibility but are not interested in the tumbling aspect of the Acro-dance program.
