STRENGTHENING

WELCOME TO PRE-POINTE AND POINTE!

As you practice at home and prepare your body for pointe, please remember:

  • WARM UP PROPERLY
    • Don’t just dive into eleves, releves, jumps, etc. if you’re cold. Especially if you’re working in pointe shoes, make sure you are properly warm before beginning exercises.
    • You should warm up like we do in FS class, and I’d also (particularly for pointe dancers!) recommend doing some plies, grand plies, and tendus to warm up your feet.
    • If you feel unusual pain, particularly anything that feels like burning, stabbing, or tearing, stop immediately and let me know.
  • DON’T UPTRAIN
    • Trust your teacher and stick to what you’ve been assigned. Don’t do skills outside of your level or that I haven’t approved you to do yet. It’ll only hold you back.
  • GO SLOW
    • Quality over quantity. Slowness and thoughtfulness will get you farther than just zoning out to get your hours in. Be intentional, focus on the little details, and try to apply all corrections!

Happy practicing!
