Dancers in Acro-Dance, Ballet, Contemporary, and Recreational classes are welcome to purchase the Company uniform listed below, but they may also wear a similar-looking alternative they already own. The black leotard and capris will be the base used for the May Showcase.
LEOTARD: A plain black short-sleeved leotard with a modest scooped neckline (front and back), with no adornments or attached skirt.
CAPRI: Black capris that fit snugly and fall 1–2 inches below the knee.
SKIRT: A black skirt that fully covers the bottom. Recreational dancers may choose any color.
SHOES: Ballet and Recreational dancers wear flesh-toned ballet shoes. Contemporary dancers wear flesh-toned half-soles. Acro dancers practice barefoot.
HAIR: Ballet and Acro dancers wear their hair in a tight bun. Contemporary and Recreational dancers must have their hair pulled off the face and neck in a ponytail, bun, or braid.
STUDIO SLIPPERS: To keep our floors and mats clean, dancers must bring slippers from home to wear over their dance shoes while in the studio. They will remove them before stepping onto the dance room floor or acro mats.
A note for CONTEMPORARY dancers: you may layer additional pieces over your leotard and capris. Other than GCDC merchandise, clothing must be free of logos, graphics, or wording.
COMPANY CLASSES:
Company and Pre-Company dancers are required to take class in our official uniform ordered from Tightspot Dancewear at 4603 Library Road in Bethel Park PA 15102. Visit Tightspot to try on the pieces for a proper fit. Be sure to let them know you are with Grace Christian so they can provide the correct items. These pieces are frequently used in our shows, so it is important that they are these exact items, in good condition, and fit as described in the information below.
NOTES ON PROPER FIT OF UNIFORM PIECES
LEOTARD: Size up if your dancer has a longer torso. The neckline should remain modest with no cleavage showing, even when bending over.
CAPRIS: Capris should be snug and fall 1–2 inches below the knee.
SKIRT: The skirt must fall at least 3 inches below the leotard line. Dancers who are tall with a small waist may need to purchase the longer skirt and have the waistband adjusted for a proper fit.
HAIR: Hair must be secured and off the dancer’s face and neck in a ponytail or bun with no additional adornment. Short bangs are permitted providing they don’t hang in their eyes. Black headbands are permitted if they stay in place.
SHOES: All dancers are required to take class in a flesh-toned ballet shoe or the older girls have the option of using a jazz shoe or half sole. Shoes should fit like a glove and not have more than 1/4 inch growth room. A child might be pointing correctly, but the teacher can’t see it if there is too much room at toes. Company dancers should not expect to use their practice shoes for the Spring Production. You will receive information in March on which shoe to purchase and it must be in new condition.
STUDIO SLIPPERS: To keep our floors and mats clean, dancers must bring slippers from home to wear over their dance shoes while in the studio. They will remove them before stepping onto the dance room floor or acro mats.
UNDERGARMENTS: Dancers, that wear a bra in class, must wear one with straps that are not seen. Dancers that need to wear a bra while performing, are required to get a flesh-toned dance bra with clear back and shoulder straps. You’ll need to find one that is supportive and covers cleavage. Tightspot dancewear has a possible option in their store.
ALL CLASSES:
JEWELRY: Other than small stud earrings, please remove all jewelry. Dancers will be asked to remove any earrings that hang below their lobe.
WATER BOTTLES: Glass water bottles are not permitted. No liquids, other than water, are permitted in the dance rooms.
CELL PHONES: Cell phones are required to stay in the dance bag at all times.
