ACRO-DANCE

Acro-dance is a beautiful combination of acrobatic skills integrated into classical dance technique.  All technique-based dance training is taught in Ballet and Company classes, while the acrobatic elements and foundational dance concepts are taught in our Acro-dance classes.

Grace Christian Dance Center is a certified Acrobatic Arts studio and uses their acclaimed, safety-based curriculum in all Acro-dance classes. This is a unique program that is broken down into levels each focusing on the five core areas of Acro-dance: flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling.

Each level builds on the skills mastered at the previous level so that dancers can safely progress to advanced tumbling skills that can be integrated into dance choreography. Click here for a demonstration of the progression of a back walkover.

Students progress at their own pace as they learn proper technique to safely master tumbling skills that integrate seamlessly into dance choreography. Along the way, dancers gain flexibility, balance, control, and confidence—skills that benefit them in every area of dance.

Because flexibility and strength can diminish during long breaks, Acro-dance is offered year-round to support consistent progress and safety. Dancers who take an extended break over the summer will need to retest the skills for their level, and dancers who take a full year off will be reevaluated starting in the Primary Level. For safety reasons, dancers in Levels 4 and above, must participate in summer classes in order to return to their same level in the fall.

All new Acro-dance students begin in the Primary class and move to Level 1 once all Primary skills have been mastered. Skill testing takes place during regular class time, typically once per month. Dates are listed on the Dancer Portal calendar. If a dancer passes to a new level, she will begin in that new class the following week, except during March-May when we are preparing for the Studio Showcase.

Students train under the direct supervision and spotting of our certified Acrobatic Arts instructors—Mrs. Black, Miss Autumn, or Miss Porcari—with student teachers assisting in non-tumbling portions of class.
